Tipperary South - Liam Browne

Liam Browne has been selected for Sinn Féin to contest the Tipperary South constituency in the 2007 General Election. At just 34, he is one of the youngest candidates nominated in South Tipperary for the upcoming General Election.

He grew up in Cashel, and is now living in the village of Rosegreen in West Tipperary. He comes from a family with a strong political and Republican background. His father Michael currently serves on Cashel Town Council, and has served the people of Tipperary for over 16 years.

He was educated at the Christian Brothers in Cashel, completing an Honours Leaving Cert in 1989. After leaving school, he served an apprenticeship as an Instrument Technician with an Engineering firm in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

This allowed Liam the opportunity to work abroad, and he has lived and worked in places as diverse as South Afica, Botswana, Sweden and Holland. After returning home, he now works in the pharmacuetical industry in South Tipperary.

On deciding to enter public life, he commenced third level education, and has completed Honours Diplomas in Politics and Government, and in Economics, and a Certificate in Social Studies at the Open University, and has currently put the final year of his degree on hold until after the upcoming election. He has also studied Economics at the Tipperary Institute in Clonmel.

In his first foray into electoral politics, Liam secured a very credible performance for Sinn Féin in the Cashel Local Electoral Area in the 2004 Local Elections, helping to build a strong base for future expansion of Sinn Féin in Tipperary.

He has a special interest in the areas of Rural Development and overall economic policy, and has served on various party sub-committees, and workshops in these areas.
