Ó Snodaigh calls on all Oireachtas members to sign Traveller petition

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Human Rights Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called on all TDs and Senators to sign a national petition which was launched today to grant ethnic status to travellers. Deputy Ó Snodaigh said the Government to mark Traveller Focus Week by reversing its policy of non recognition of travellers as a distinct ethnic group. View more

Environment Minister doctors housing list figures – reality much worse

Sinn Féin Housing Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has today charged Environment Minister John Gormley of doctoring housing figures released by his department in an effort to hide the depth of the country’s housing crisis. Cause of botulism cluster must be investigated – Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has expressed concern at a significant increase in the number of people presenting at hospital with the potentially fatal desease botulism this year. A response from the Minister for Health to a Dáil question from Deputy Ó Snodaigh has shown that since January 2004 only six cases of botulism have presented at hospitals in the state however five of them have been post January this year. Four of these cases were among injecting drug users. View more

Ó Snodaigh launches Bill to protect Human Rights Commission from Budgetary assaults

Sinn Féin Justice and Human Rights Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD today launched and called for all party support for the Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Bill 2008. Deputy Ó Snodaigh said he drafted the Bill to protect the status of the commission and called on the Government to adopt it to mark International Human Rights Day and the 60th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights which take place tomorrow. Over 1,200 licensed firearms stolen by criminals in last five years – Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called for legislation to be introduced to tighten gun control laws in the state. Speaking in the Dáil today about the shooting dead of Aidan Kane on Sunday night Deputy Ó Snodaigh revealed that over 1,200 legally held firearms have fallen into the hands of criminals in the past five years. Lisbon No Vote will make its voice heard at next years European elections

Speaking during tonight’s Dáil debate on the Report of the Oireachtas Committee on Ireland’s future in the European Union Deputy Ó Snodaigh said “The Irish people voted for a better deal and that deal should have been delivered by this government. I believe that the almost one million people who rejected the Lisbon Treaty and indeed those who voted for it but respected the democratic outcome will make their views known in next year’s European Union elections.” View more

Ó Snodaigh publishes legislation to protect Human Rights Commission

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Human Rights Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has published a Bill entitled Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Bill 2008 which seeks to protect the Human Rights Commission from budgetary assaults and to ensure that its status reflects the overwhelming public endorsement of it articulated by the referendum on the Good Friday Agreement which mandated its establishment. RTÉ facilitates British Army recruitment in Ireland – Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin spokesperson on International Affairs Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said that Irish neutrality and sovereignty are being violated by the active recruitment of young Irishmen into the British Army. He said it was disgraceful that this was being facilitated by some media outlets, including RTÉ, The Irish Times and Irish editions of British tabloids. View more
