Ó Snodaigh tables amendment to Private Members’ Motion on Gangland Crime

November 18, 2008

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has submitted an amendment to the government's amendment to tonight's Private Members' Motion on Gangland Crime. Deputy Ó Snodaigh described the Government's amendment to Fine Gael's motion as complacent and non committal. He said his amendment seeks to commit the Government to practical measures to tackle serious drug and gun crime.

Speaking ahead of tonight's debate Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "The Government amendment to tonight's Private Members' Motion on gangland crime is complacent and non committal. It is completely void of any effective and practical measures to tackle gangland crime.

"I have this afternoon submitted, on behalf of the Sinn Féin Deputies, an amendment to the Government motion which seeks to commit the Government to practical measures including the expedition of the role out of programmes such as the Dial to Stop Drug Dealing initiative and extra resources and modern equipment for Gardaí."
